I aquired her a few week ago in Story City, Iowa at an antique shop.  I for seriously want to sit down and talk with her over a martini or something - perhaps some baileys?   She's a Freeman Elliot. http://www.thepinupfiles.com/elliot.html This is from his calendar work. The print I have is obviously a reprint and is cut out of a mag or something, it came in a frame but is kinda beat up. I wish I knew from when though :( It says "Great American Pin-up" on the bottom corner of the back. And it has Elliot's biography. I'm sure it's not really an "antique" but I wish I knew more on where the my actual copy is from. At any rate I love her and her irishness - us Irish gals have to stick together. I also adore the sketches around her - Freeman Elliot did good work - so gorgous!

Taken from a myspace bullitien because I'm that socially fantastic...

[♥] WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE PREGNANT?
Probably freak out at first, but then eventually stop freaking out. - lol, I like having freedom - and after working in the treatment facility - I've seen what happens to children after they exit the womb - not so great. (am I pretty much the most selfish person ever? Probably)

[♥] WHAT COLOR IS YOUR CURRENT BRA?
well- apparently this "Ladies Survey" was written by a guy - because no girl would care about that

[♥] CAN YOU PUT MAKEUP ON WITH OUT A MIRROR?
uh, no - although it probably looks like I do :P

[♥] DO GIRLS REALLY ONLY TALK ABOUT BOYS AND CLOTHES?
the ones at the university of nothern Iowa do *eye roll*

[♥] HOW OLD DO PEOPLE NORMALLY THINK YOU ARE?
In the last year I've heard everything from 16 to 30

[♥] DO YOU FALL FOR GUYS QUICKLY?
Give me a compliment and I'm like clay for you to mold however you wish - I'm such a pushover.

[♥] ARE ACCENTS SEXY?
ha - I recently had this discussion with a European friend of mine - I love accents - infact, I wanted to do the foreign exchange thing, and go to Australia - one of my reasons was so I could obtain a grand accent.

[♥] DO YOU HAVE AN OVERPROTECTIVE FATHER?
Not really, he tries to shelter me from some things - but not like he did when I was younger

[♥] WAS BARBIE YOUR ROLE MODEL?
Ha, I used to sleep with "Baby-sitter Skipper" under my pillow and would wish I would wake up looking like her - and barbie was pretty fantastic - no matter how many "nurse barbie" or "secretary barbies" came out you know ken was her sugar daddy! Besides that, chick had a LOT of shoes!

[♥] WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE A GUY WHO CAN SING OR PLAY AN INSTRUMENT?
Well I've dated singers and I'm married to a musician and I'd say they both have their goods and bads - I'll go with a guy that can play an instrument - the singers I've been with have ginormous egos. (besides that, if he can play an instrument I can sing - we'll go on tour- and make billions!)

[♥] ARE IMPLANTS IN YOUR FUTURE?
Going to go with a negatory on that one.

[♥] ARE YOU DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL?
Not in the sense that he spoils me and I have him wrapped around my finger - but I am his only daughter!

[♥] LIPSTICK OR CHAPSTICK?
Chapstick or lipgloss -- I'm addicted.

[♥] ARE YOU GIRLY OR A TOMBOY?
I can be girly - but it's usually embaressing to admit it. I mesh better "with the boys" though for sure.

[♥] DO YOU WAKE UP EARLY TO GET READY FOR THE DAY?
ha, hardly - I have to be to work at about 10 minutes til 9 - I usually get up a little after 8. I HAAAATE mornings.

[♥] ARE YOU HIGH MAINTENANCE?
Nah - like I said, I can be girly - but generally I'm not worried about all that girly crap.

[♥] BEST SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?
Any english - especially composition.

[♥] DO YOU HAVE AN OVERPROTECTIVE BIG BROTHER?
lol, no, I don't have an older brother (although he is bigger than me) but he probably couldn't care less about protecting me.

[♥] ARE YOU CONFIDENT IN YOUR LOOKS?
hardly

[♥] HOW MANY GUYS DO YOU THINK WILL READ THIS BECAUSE IT SAYS LADY'S SURVEY?
atleast 3.14

[♥] WILL YOU BE A GOOD WIFE?
I hope my husband thinks I'm the best wife, cuz I lurve mah Andrew.

[♥] DO YOU TEND TO LEAD PEOPLE ON?
I don't think so - I like compliments and flattery but I don't like the violence that would ensue after I had to cut them off HA

[♥] BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
I love Blond boys - but I love mah Brunette boy very muchly.

[♥] FAVORITE ACTIVITY?
I love the outdoors, baking, and online shopping! I could nevah go to an actual store again and be more than happy.

[♥] ARE YOU SAD PETE WENTZ IS NO LONGER A BACHELOR?
ha, not really - emo boys are rediculous.

[♥] BATHROOM LID: UP OR DOWN?
I'm pretty sure I'm a fan of down - I don't like to fall in very much

[♥] EVEN IF NOBODY IS AROUND, DO YOU GET A SWIG FROM THE GALLON OR STILL GET A GLASS?
well if we're talking milk - I don't drink it, but I'm telling you DON'T SWIG FROM THE GALLON - the enzymes in your saliva make the milk forment faster so that's why you get the sour crusty milk around the top - ewwwww... However, juice or tea or what not - I've been known to swig.

[♥] DO YOU LIE TO KEEP A MAN HAPPY, OR BE HONEST EVEN THOUGH IT MAY MAKE THEM MAD?
I try to be honest - sometimes it takes me a while to come clean but in the end I hate keeping things from people

[♥] WHAT IS SEXIER? BAD BOY ROCKER TATTOOS, OR CLEAN CUT PREPPY BOYS?
It depends - I love the "Bad boy" because it's always more fun to rebel. on the other hand I like the clean boys because you KNOW they're hiding SOMETHING

So my birthday (part 2 of 4) was last weekend - first weekend it was kickball with a bunch of people and a few drinks around Dubuque last week was the major festivities. This weekend is Fright Fest and next is Halloween. :D

But this past weekend started out with shopping on Thursday and I took the day off on Friday to just bum around so that was nice. A lot of my extended family was in town (great cousins, great-great cousins, great aunts, and uncles and all that) And some closer family as well - just plain ole aunt and uncle, grandparents and what not. So I had good time with them Friday and Saturday mornings! Saturday afternoon I got my first professional massage (highly reccomended, I'm going for the hour next time) Then Tricia and I went back to my house to drink wine and get ready. Ate at buffalo wildwings - which as always was FANTASTIC food... but possibly the worst service I've gotten ever, maybe? Granted it was a bigass table and what we figured was a new waitress on a very busy night - but not impressive. Had a couple amazing friends and then my uncle, mommy, dad, and brother come out to eat with us!  We tried to go to "Fat Tuesday's" in Dubuque but it was quite dead - very dissapointing. Gin Ricky's was however pretty hopping, it wasn't great when we got there but pretty soon it was quite acceptable. Some Hillcresters were there, saw a guy I graduated with, and attempted to break my leg on multiple occassions.  After there Tricia and Paul wussed out ;) Oh and Jasmine had another engagement... So we went to the busted lift - Andrew, Roger, Melissa, Bobby, Stephanie and I... Closed that down, went back to my house and 4am rolled around, I couldn't take it anymore and went to bed... It was really great- I don't think I could do it every weekend though, I'm getting old in my 24 years -_- That was that weekend in a nutshell a lot more on the way though =D

I'm actually pretty excited for the rest of the year. Not only is it really getting to be my favorite time of year here in good ole Iowa but I am fairly busy with fantasticness.

Tomorrow night Tricia and Paul are going to crash at our house, play wii, I'm going to try and get them play singstar with me ;) then up brightass early for FRIGHT FEST at 6 flags in IL.  Overnight in a hotel where we will make small children cry and old men blush.

Then the most Hallow and Weenie time of the year next weekend. I have a costume, however I do not have a party or location set.  Perhaps I'll just hand out candies to the childrens and go to bed at 10.  We will see.

The following weekend my best friend's parents are doing a vowrenewal / rewedding of awesomeness and Andrew and I were invited so I'm actually incredibly excited for that! AND of course Michelle will be there - so I can really hardly contain myself...

The next weekend is my parent's 25th anniversary party! :D WEEEEEEEE

The following weekend I'm looking to be in Marshalltown / Desmoines OR I'll be in Dubuque doing the Polar Plunge to raise money for the special Olympics -  - - - I really need to know from the Des Moines / Central Iowa people which weekend would be best for me to stalk you on your home turf - November 14th or November 21st?

Thanksgiving follows that! then time for Christmas decorating and more shopping and buying

THEN perhaps I'm going to be in Houston for Christmas!!! No offical plans yet but I'm very excited for that as well.

NEWYEARS THEN ... party at my house??? May be the last time ... with any luck...

Andrew and I talked to my grandpa and we're going to get land we just have to get it surveyed now and figure out what it costs to do some of the basic electric / sewer / all that hookup then figure out a house... maybe by this time next year I'll be living it up in my BRAND NEW HOUSE!! ... Hopefully the economy will figure its ass out and Barack won't screw up my dream :(

Obvs there are still some cruddy things - Andrew's car cost about $1000 to fix, and that was after the warrenty work they did.  I still haven't sold my car. My parents are still financiall screwed by no fault of their own aaaAAAAaaaaAAAAaaaand the nursing home my great grandma was in after her stroke pretty much completly screwed her to the point where she had bed sores and they thought they were going to have to amputate her leg... yeah great. Overall, I'm trying to keep a positive outlook because no matter the greatness in the future it's still hard to look past some of the bad and enjoy the wonders happening.

Hmmm, I never was any good at math but let's see

   400
- 275
- 135
-   25
-   70
- 300
-   50
- 100
- 250

does not equal a positive number

I get paid tomorrow but I'm not so sure that I can wait that long ---- perhaps I should delve into the savings account hmmm????

So, I've begun lifting weights - or flailing around 4 times a week --- either way

And today as an additional motivator I took an absolutly mortifying photo of me and I'm going to carry it on me as a reminder the work I've got to do (don't even bother asking to see it, it's not good- but that's the point).... This weekend I got some confirmation that I am out of shape --- and I'm not particularly happy with that. The weight lifting is going well and I'm past the stage where I feel like I've been beat up after every work out so that's pretty spectacular! I'm ready to have fantastic arms, and perhaps next softball season when I fill in I'll actually be able to hit the ball!!! SUPER!

Plans for the rest of the year, basically.

I think a women wearing a corset is beautiful... accentuating all the right parts and bringing out the feminine attributes.

However, I thank God that I don't live in a time that would have been considered standard.

Especially with my frame - I surely would have been "required" to wear one...

I wore a "Merry Widow" on my wedding day ...

(From Wikipdia)

Merry widow

In 1955 a corselette by Warner's was released and named after The Merry Widow, an operetta from 1905 that later became a Hollywood movie.[3] This new merry widow featured demi-cups and a shorter girdle compared to its predecessors.

The original merry widow foundation garment was also a corselette that incorporated slim panels of black elastic yarn net. A heavy-duty zipper was inserted behind a velvet-backed hook-and-eye flange, and the whole garment was lined with nylonvoile. Nine long spiral wires were cased in black satin.

Lana Turner is quoted as having said, "I am telling you, the merry widow was designed by a man. A woman would never do that to another woman."

To this day, "merry widow" is the generic term for a corselette bra in the United States. This type of lingerie is also known as a torsolette, and is used in bridal lingerie, similar to the bustier.

I Actually did have an actual merry widow not just a torsolette - the wonders of vintage shopping - and let me say that thing was terrible and it wasn't laced as tight as possible as a corset is and I wore it one single day --- but this who entry stems from searching different photos online and finding this....

.... wow.... that's all I've got on that one - the price of beauty I suppose...

(((LOTS OF PHOTOS AND I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON AND WILL NOT PUT THEM BEHIND A CUT --- SEND ME TO LJ HELL!!!)
Like I do every-so-often, and not nearly as often as I should, I got a haircut.

I let it go quite a while this time, it was below my earlobes *GASP*  (that's pretty long for me - remember

THIS ---------------->

at any rate - I was trying ti find something new that couldn't be deemed "old lady" hair --- or "little boy" hair --- or the other 100 things I heard....

SO I set out trying to find something that crossed Rizzo (Stockard Channing) from "Grease"

and Lana Turner in "The Postman always Rings Twice"

Not quite as crazy as Stockard but not as tight as Lana and obviously no longer than than what I had,

After my extended search on a whim and perhaps for a different inspiration I went to the Charm School website.  (Check out the site, the art, and of course the merch... if not for you then I would most def take a book, sticker, or print!)

I'm not posting the actual photo but I will basically link you to where you need to go

http://www.charm-school.com/penwork11.html --- it's the 2nd row - first photo

There be what I had been basically searching for!

So I was able to print that picture and make my appointment.

WIth my 2 dollars off coupon and picture in hand I went to the stylist and watched my locks fall to the floor.

I prompted her twice to cut my top layers shorter - she did not oblige.  I also don't feel like she paid a lot of attention to detail - like the fact my bangs are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too long ---

Overall it's not the worse haircut I've gotten, I'm much closer to the Rizzo side of things for sure

"Overtreated"

  • Sep. 8th, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Now, I don't read a lot of books

And, I reccomend very few books

AND, I especially don't go around bragging up books before I've finished reading them for a variety of reasons

but, here you go.... it's called "Overtreated" by Shannon Brownlee.

Ask the average person, they don't think they get enough treatment from their physicians... and they could be right ... but chances are when you go to the hospital or even the doctor... you're getting tests that don't matter.

Have you gone and had a test come back inconclusive - could it be that your doctor knew, before they gave the test that it wouldn't mean squat...

I just had an emergency room visit - before insurance it was $2000... X-rays, scans, monitors... everything came back with no issues ... the entire visit didn't teach me anything

but it got the hospital 2 grand.

I've been having some pretty major issues since May.

I've had 3 visits to the lab, a visit to the emergancy room, multiple doctors, and specialists, tests, medications --- nothing's changed ... now it's starting to make sense.

Read the book - learn a lot - and think twice the next time your doctor wants to "run a test" or perscribe some fantastic drug.

dear journal.

there are nearly 1463 things going on right now. Unfortunatly, I don't want to talk about any of them. Although, I will mention the fact that I am still huge and weigh the same as a small rhino, or possibly the same as a large elk, that is undetermined.

My greatgrandma did infact have a stroke sometime sunday night / monday morning. She woke up and felt something like an electric current running through her she went to move on her bed and felt a hand which scared her b/c she didn't know whos hand it could be - it was her left hand where she'd basically lost feeling and she fell out of the bed onto the floor where she hit her face on the night stand and ended up underneath a rocking chair.

My aunt found her there the next morning when she got there sometime before 7 and grandma told her to call an ambulance. She's been in the hospital since Monday and there's no talk of release yet. Her right knee is already terrible and she messed up her ankle so walking isn't going to happen. She had help standing the other day and that's about it for now. Her left side is still very weak. She's weak pretty much all over but is incredibly restless because of an illness years ago where she was basically confined to her bed. I mean, she's 94 years old and living on her own in the country - this lady does not like to be held down. :)

She has overcome a lot though so I'm really hoping and praying she is able to get back on her own. A nursing home is a possibility, atleast while she does rehab. And either that will kill her spirit or make her work REALLY hard to get home. I guess we'll just have to see which it is. I love that lady and our visits and seeing her as much as possible. Andrew and I were supposed to go out there last weekend and weren't able to - I know there wouldnt' have been anything I would have been able to do - but you have to kind of wonder if any one little thing could change the course of history - If we would have seen her, maybe she wouldn't have been able to go to bed when she did, she may have had to stay up to finish what we kept her from, or maybe she would have gone to bed earlier b/c our visit made her sleepy, and whatever little thing may have made the difference - but that's just a terribly disheartening thing to think about with ANYTHING. How little tiny things years and years and what not back make us exactly who we are today - like, if I hadn't been in play Grease in 2001 I never would have met Andrew. (I'll explain it to you later ;) )

Otherwise Andrew and I went to Cascade yesterday to look at Lots there's a couple nice ones, we def want to get in on a small community to get the best loan, which looks like it'll be the rural development loan. We have our realtor coming over Tuesday to do a Market Analysis on our house and are waiting to hear back from the contractor about getting together and doing estimates.  I'm going to be a nervous wreck about this whole thing until I find out how much we'll get for our house and how much it's going to cost to build what I want.  I have a couple floor plans drawn out so we'll see how that goes later as well.
